Overview

IAESTE (International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience) is an organization that facilitates international internships for students in the fields of engineering, technology, and natural sciences. As an outgoing intern, you will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in your field of study while also immersing yourself in a new culture.

The application process for an IAESTE internship typically involves submitting your CV and transcripts, as well as a letter of motivation. Once accepted, you will be placed with a host company or research institution in your desired country for a specific duration, usually between 6 to 12 months.

During your internship, you will work on projects and tasks assigned by your host company, and will also be expected to participate in any training or other professional development opportunities offered by the company. You will also be able to take advantage of the cultural and social opportunities that come with living in a new country. Overall, an IAESTE internship is a valuable opportunity to gain international work experience, improve your language skills and immerse yourself in a new culture, while also enhancing your professional development.

Once a year ago someplace you have never been before~ Dalai Lama. For me it was China, I still remember when I was applying for the internship, I was so nervous and pessimistic thinking how will I be selected, there are so many students who are better than me but I think God has already planned everything for you. It was my first international trip and will be the most memorable one, I think. I worked in the Quality Control Department of Mettler Toledo and my mentor Darry was the best. He was so helpful and patient throughout my internship. My task was to develop an Object Tracking System which I completed to some extent with the knowledge which I had and acquired during my internship. I had a wonderful experience in China, learned a lot, made new and good friends from different countries like England, Wales, Germany, Poland, Bolivia, Belgium, Serbia, Hungary, Spain, Colombia, got to know about the amazing culture of China, visited so many spectacular cities, tried the delicious traditional Chinese food, bought lots of souvenirs from every city that I visited, for my family or to keep it as a memory. I got attached to the place and people. This only justifies that I had a great time here. Thanks a lot, MT and IAESTE for accepting my offer and giving me such a golden opportunity. This was my first international trip and I can see a great amount of change in me. I am now more confident, independent, hardworking, can open up more easily, I also developed good communication skills, enhanced my technical skills, and I feel like now I have done something professional. I will cherish all these moments which I had, which MT and IAESTE gave me. Two months spent well. So be a traveler, not a tourist. Try new things, meet new people and look beyond what’s right in front of you. Those are the keys to understanding this amazing world we live in.

I did a 2 months internship at AND GAYRIMENKUL (Anadolu Grubu) in the field of Sales and Marketing. I interacted directly with the clients and got to know how the work happens in real life. It was such a great experience and all the credit goes to the people of Turkey and IAESTE India. The people were so nice that I felt my office was my second home. We interns at İTÜ enjoyed a lot, we were like a small family where we helped each other.

I had one of the best experiences of my life when I went for an internship abroad in Turkey. My internship focused on App Development at Kafein, a start-up in Turkey. While I loved my job, the best part about it was the experience of interacting with people, who were oblivious to my culture. There, I got to learn a lot about the different lifestyles of people. The food, the music, the culture, I was trying my best to absorb all of this in the short span of 90 days. And after spending so much time in a foreign country, I can confidently say, that it was worth it.

IAESTE is an unique organization. I joined IAESTE MUJ right at my first year of engineering. Little did I knew that I would have a great summer ahead of me. I went to Thailand for my first International Research internship. There I was introduced to some amazing research projects and had a great mentor with whom I brainstormed for hours. Being a research intern made me really understand the domain of Artificial Intelligence and I developed a good grip on the core concepts. Thailand is a wonderful country with a vibrant culture. I made friends from Japan, Bangladesh, South Korea and many more different countries. This international experience not only helped me to widen my horizons but also helped me to become a more confident person.

Support and Services

The IAESTE program provides a wide range of support and services to outgoing interns to ensure a smooth transition and a successful internship experience. These include:

Visa assistance: IAESTE will assist interns with obtaining the necessary visa for their host country. This includes providing guidance on the application process and required documents.

Accommodation: IAESTE will assist interns in finding suitable accommodation, whether it be a shared apartment or a homestay.

Insurance: IAESTE will provide guidance on obtaining the necessary insurance coverage for the duration of the internship.

Pre-departure briefing: Before leaving for the host country, interns will attend a pre-departure briefing where they will receive information on the host country, culture and customs, as well as practical information such as how to open a bank account and how to use public transportation.

Cultural integration activities: IAESTE organizes a variety of cultural integration activities to help interns adjust to their new surroundings and meet other interns and locals.

Language classes: IAESTE may provide language classes for interns in the host country to help them improve their language skills and better understand the culture.

Ongoing support: IAESTE provides ongoing support to interns throughout the duration of their internship, including assistance with any problems that may arise and regular check-ins to ensure that the internship is going well.

Re-entry support: After the internship is completed, IAESTE will provide support to help interns re-adjust to their home country and make the most of their new skills and experiences.
